Welcome to Norwell
Norwell has long been a picturesque community with many wonderful things to do including a wildlife preserve and many arts and cultural experiences. During warmer months, people enjoy a variety of activities like kayaking and canoeing on the North River which forms Norwell’s southern border. Historically, the town got its name in 1888 from Henry Norwell, a merchant who provided funds for town roads. Shipbuilding was a major industry throughout the 18th and early 19th centuries based on the North and Northwest rivers. Today, over 10,000 residents call Norwell home with its top-notch schools and many waterfront properties along the North River. A few of the recognizable residents have been Jennifer Coolidge from movies such as American Pie and Animal Planet host Jeff Corwin. The real estate market in Norwell continues to be strong after a surge of building and rising real estate values. Homeowners can enjoy waterfront views and all of the wonderful activities of this community - any time of the year. Hornstra Farms is a family owned and operated dairy farm that delivers fresh milk and farm product to the doorstep of hundreds of South Shore residents.
