Norwell has long been a picturesque community with many wonderful things to do including a wildlife preserve and many arts and cultural experiences. Historically, the town got its name in 1888 from Henry Norwell, a merchant who provided funds for town roads. Shipbuilding was a major industry throughout the 18th and early 19th centuries based on the North and Northwest rivers. Today, over 10,000 residents call Norwell home with its top-notch schools and many waterfront properties along the North River. A few of the recognizable residents have been Jennifer Coolidge from movies such as American Pie and Animal Planet host Jeff Corwin.
