Welcome to Duxbury

Duxbury was founded by Myles Standish, and many of its historic and beautiful homes from Pilgrim times, and from the 19th century shipbuilding industry still exist. It has a gorgeous beach that’s partly open to the public for a parking fee – but get there early! Those with permits are able to access the same beach over the Powder Point Bridge and park on the beach itself. Duxbury is a beautiful community, steeped in history, with excellent schools. Snug Harbor, on Duxbury Bay, is one of the most attractive recreational boat basins on the South Shore. The many shops in Snug Harbor partner with each other to create a vital community. The Duxbury Maritime School, also located in Snug Harbor, offers 85 different land and water-based programs for all ages including sailing, rowing, and ecology. Their mission is to connect people and stimulate an enduring appreciation and love of the sea. Once a famous shipbuilding center, Duxbury is the sixth largest cranberry producer in the state. It’s also becoming known for its newest crop, cultivated right in Duxbury Bay – Island Creek Oysters!
